Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Data Engineer to join our data engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building scalable data pipelines, transforming large volumes of data, and supporting analytics initiatives using GCP-native tools and technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust ETL/ELT data pipelines on GCP using tools like Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Composer (Airflow), BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage
- Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources and ensure data integrity and quality
- Design and implement data models, warehouses, and marts in BigQuery
- Automate workflows, schedule jobs, and monitor data pipelines
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data needs
- Optimize performance and cost of data processing and storage on GCP
- Implement data governance, lineage, and security best practices
- Participate in code reviews, solution design sessions, and provide mentorship to junior engineers
Required Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering with at least 2+ years hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and Apache Beam or Spark
- Experience with BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Dataproc, and Cloud Composer
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and DevOps concepts for data pipeline deployment
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and data lake architectures
- Experience in working with streaming and batch data
- Knowledge of data security, IAM roles, and data privacy compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- GCP Professional Data Engineer certification
- Experience with Terraform or other IaC tools for GCP
- Exposure to Apache Kafka, Airbyte, or Fivetran
- Experience in Agile development methodologies
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
